Now that America has elected a new president, the temptation is great to leave the past behind. The Bush years are over. Don't we all want to look forward to a new beginning? Of course we do. Trouble is that the legacy of the Bush Administration will torment us for a long time to come. At the very least the Bush administration has set back global progress on peace, hunger, population and climate change by a decade. At the very worst it has bankrupted the global economy and orchestrated the death of thousands for their own financial gain.

If we don't hold our leaders accountable for their actions we invite future leaders to repeat them. The argument that this is all in the past and best forgotten flies in the face of the most basic premise of law and order. As a prosecutor in the Department of Justice pointed out: "Every case I have ever brought before a judge and jury happened in the past." By their own admission the Bush Administration is guilty of war crimes for which we hanged people after WWII.

There can be no doubt by now that the events of September 11, 2001 changed the world. They provided the overriding focus of US foreign policy and certainly were at the center of the Bush Doctrine.  9/11 was the justification for going to war, trampling human rights, shredding our constitution and bankrupting our country. Most of the challenges President Obama faces have their genesis in 9/11. Yet we still do not know exactly who financed and aided the attacks and how it was that they were successfully carried out.

The legacy of George W. Bush

There are still so many unanswered questions about that fateful day.  By applying the principle of Ockham's razor to these questions it becomes clear that the official version is implausible at best and deserves to be re-investigated.

An independent investigation should begin with the events of 9/11 and be allowed to follow the leads that develop to re-establish the rule of law.

- Why did the Bush administration lie about their prior warnings?
- Why was Vice President Chaney in charge of air defense exercises on September 11?
- Why were fighter jets not able to intercept the hijacked aircraft?
- Why was the Bin Laden family evacuated from the United States?
- Why did the World Trade Center Buildings collapse as if they were imploded by controlled demolition?
- Why did Building 7 collapse even though it was never hit by an aircraft?
- If the official version of "pancakeing floors" is true what happened to the steel columns at the center of the buildings?
- Why were there no prosecutions of 9/11 suspects?
- Why were independent investigations blocked by the Whitehouse?
- Why have security tapes and tapes of interviews with firefighters been classified?
- Why did Henry Kissinger step down from the 9/11 commission?
- Why did President Bush not testify under oath?
- Why were important documents withheld from the majority of the commissioners?

Chaney Admits to War Crimes

The list of questions is too long to list here but each deserves an answer. Although there was a 9/11 commission during the Bush term, the frightened mood of the country and the stonewalling of the Whitehouse prevented it from digging deep enough to uncover the truth.

As a result these unanswered questions linger like a thorn in our shoe, or a smudge on our glasses. They will continue to cloud our vision, tarnish our global reputation and hinder our progress in international diplomacy. Leaving these questions unanswered amounts to a De facto complicity or at the very least a general acceptance that the lives lost on that day simply amounted to "collateral damage" in a global "business deal".

Those who choose not to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. President Obama is correct to end the war in Iraq and to re-focus efforts on capturing Osama Bin Laden. But to re-establish America's credibility on the world stage we need to go further than that. We need to re-open the investigation into the events of 9/11 and determine once and for all who was involved in the planning, financing and execution of this colossal tragedy.

Consider these events as seen by foreign observers.

- President Bush Sr. and his associates saw first hand the power and cost of the American military machine when it liberated Kuwait.
- During the Clinton administration while scandal diverted public attention, consortiums were formed and alliances forged to insure that all successful bids for military contracts would include an element to siphon 10% off the top.
- Promises were made to acquire the biggest campaign fund in American history and with some shady ballot discrepancies George Bush Jr. squeaked into office.
- Bush 43 spent the first six months in office playing Golf while his popularity continued to drop.
- 9/11 changed all that and boosted his popularity to over 90%
- Before the airspace was reopened Bin Laden's family was evacuated from the United States.
- Never before or since have high rise buildings collapsed as a result of fire.
- Building 7 collapsed and was not even hit by an airplane.
- All towers visibly imploded in the manner typical of a controlled demolition
- Bush 43 stated publicly that he saw the first airplane hit the towers on television before he entered the classroom in Florida. That event was recorded by a French TV crew and the video tape was not made public until the following day.
- President Bush upon being informed by his aids that the US had been attacked, lingered in that elementary school classroom far longer than reasonable for the commander-in-chief.
- Bin Laden remained a free man for the entire 8 years Bush 43 was in office.
- The Bush administration used 9/11 as the pretense to take America to war against Iraq even though the CIA, FBI and Pentagon all confirmed that there was no link between Sadam Hussain and 9/11.
-Well over a trillion dollars has been spent on military and support contracts since the US invaded Iraq.
- 10% of that could make 100,000 people millionaires. It has been said that money talks. Can it also buy a lot of silence?

Consider the events since 9/11 and then watch the movie.
