| Are You A Boiling Frog? | ||
| The story goes that if you place a frog in a pot of
cold water and slowly heat the water to the boiling point the frog will
never notice the change. It will not attempt to jump out or feel any
pain. From one moment to the next the change will be slight and its
metabolism will try to adapt. It will be remarkably successful and will
happily boil to death.

The trouble with our body is that its much too forgiving. We don't expect a diesel car to run on gasoline or apple juice. We don't expect a computer to run on 2000 Volts of electricity. We don't expect flowers to grow in total darkness. But because our bodies are so forgiving we abuse them daily and they seem to just keep on working. We pour endless amounts of caffeine into them. We inject them with nicotine and other addictive drugs. We dehydrate them with alcohol. We plug them with chemically altered or saturated fats. And if that were not enough we deprive them of nutrients, submit them into atrophy or bloat them into obesity. | True, their performance gradually
declines, we feel less energetic, less capable, more pain. We are not as
quick footed and our brain works slower but the decline is delayed and
so we often don't even associate it with our self mutilating habits. We
are like the frog in the boiling pot. We think that our current state,
however deteriorated it is, is normal. We do not notice that we are
killing ourselves. We think we are growing old or suffer from disease
brought on by our environment. Then eventually we compound the problem
by adding a litany of drugs to the mix.
